Sanitation and Hygeine Guide

A modular resource to keep unhoused folks safe Art Direction     Design    Design Systems

Client: Seattle-King County Public Health (via EnviroIssues)
Timeframe:
Feb-Jun 2022
My roles:
creative direction, design
Tools: InDesign, Illustrator

As lead designer, I transformed a dense, text-heavy document into an accessible resource for people experiencing homelessness. I developed a clear visual system built on iconography, illustration, and color to communicate critical info across varied literacy levels. Designed for quick use in high-pressure environments, this guide can be used as both singular document and broken apart into individual posters and checklists. I led the design from concept through production in close collaboration with public health workers and homeless service providers. The final guide was widely adopted and praised for its clarity and usability.

RESULTS
When King County solicited feedback on the guide from service providers the response was overwhelmingly positive, and the most common question was: “When can we get a copy?”
Darrell Rodgers, the Division Director of Environmental Health Services at King County Public Health praised the guide and described it as light years ahead of what they have done thus far.
